A Quilt for Stephanie

Stephanie contacted me last year to commission me to make her two t-shirt quilts with her late husbands t-shirts.

I made one for Marley earlier this year. click her name if you want to read about it.

I realized as i was laying it that i had more t-shirts and could make it bigger- so I did. It got the two outside columns and another top and bottom row after this layout.

Im so glad this was off at the quilters when our basement flooded.

I love the challenge of having the rows different heights and making the widths match up, but its oh so much math! lol

and she was able to come and pick it up. I had her daughter bring her and didnt tell her it was ready. I think she figured it out when they drove up my street.

I was glad to get this to her before the one year anniversary.

A memory Quilt for Marley

Let me start this post by saying I dont do T-shirt quilts.
I have done memory quilts with flannel pj pants and shirts.

Last summer the sexton of our church passed away. His wife got in contact with my go-to Long Arm Quilter- Pam. Pam then referred her to me as she realized I had a connection. (and gave me a heads up).

When Stephanie contacted me about making her daughter a memory quilt with Donald's t-shirts I was ready to say yes.
I was a bit nervous because they are someones precious memories and I didnt want to mess it up.
After a couple days of cutting the seams off the t-shirts I was ready to start figuring out common sizes i could cut things and how they would all fit together.

I decided to make the different rows different heights and sew them together and have different widths.

I got its sewn together at a quilting sew bee

I sent it to the quilters before I went to my sisters in ottawa for a week.

Here it is finished

Jessica's Quilt

Jessica asked me to make a quilt with her daddy's shirts. He had passed away a year or so ago.
I used Bonie Hunters meathod of deboning a shirt on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS-09AYE0fM

She only wanted no pill fleece on the back and no batting.
the quilting showed up nicely on the back!

She also wanted 3 -12 inch block finished mini quilts and a small wall hanging.

Sue's memory quilt

A member of my church approached me to see if I would make her a quilt from her Daddys PJ pants.

He had passed away and she wanted something to remember him by.

So we decided that we would do a string quilt from them.

After the blocks were made we had to try out some ideas.

apparently Zeke had to try it out a different way.

I got the quilt back from the quilters and laid it out on the bed in Zekes room.

The label (washed 3 times and the label looks well loved)
Apparently my kids ensure that the quilts are Pre-cuddled.

My friend was emotional over this so this is the only kind of shot I could get :)

oh and this is the quilt I have washed it 3 times and the Colour Catchers were still bright pink.
the progression is visible - they do get lighter.
