Facebook homemade challenge #5

This is it!
I have completed my Facebook challenge in less than 3 months! (I did have them done and mailed by 2 but just posting the last one now)

Back in January I decided to do the Facebook Homemade Challenge.

I have already posted
#1 for Paula
# 2 for Leslie
# 3 for Kendra

#4 for Debb

This was for a facebook friend I didnt know very well, Brittany from Inspired Life Photography.
She took pictures of Zeke once and for those who received our Christmas card- She was the one who took that Photo.

Her request was black, white, and yellow.
So I asked if she liked bees. She said yes!

Can you see the mistake in the black quilting in the bottom one?

Looking at it now-  I should have used a higher contrast yellow from the bee fabric instead of a matching one.
Oh well!

Facebook homemade challenge #4

Back in January I decided to do the Facebook Homemade Challenge.

I have already posted
#1 for Paula
# 2 for Leslie
# 3 for Kendra

This one was For Debb.

She requested cranberry and yellow.
Luckily my quilt in the living room was these colours and I had scraps!

She was the guinea pig.
I had never made Mug Rugs before and was experimenting with size and styles.

This was the fist one I made and I think it turned out pretty good. It has a pieced border.

my first attempt at quilting inside the box (not running the lines off the quilt)

Can you see the quilting lines?

After I had made these I had decided to make two identical ones for everyone else. Debb was very nice to let me send her these without having to make her matching ones.
enjoy!

Facebook homemade challenge #3

Winner number 3 for my Facebook Pay it Forward Challenge
(winner 1 and winner 2)

Well Kendra received her Prize in the mail today!
She was VERY excited and posted on my facebook wall right away! Lets just say her post started with: ‎{SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE}

You can read about it from her point of view. (really - go visit her blog)

Her request of colours was black, grey and "that golden-mustard-y yellow color".
That was as close to mustard as I had.

She is also obsessed with the letter I so I made hers look like Is when turned :)

I also quilted it so the back looked liked Is as well. this was Daves idea- Thanks dear!

Facebook homemade challenge #2

Before I start with the challenge- I need more of the fabric. I bought it at Hancocks. I am on a fabric diet (not to buy more fabric for 8 weeks) So I am willing to swap.

Her colour request was Purple.
I didnt have much for purple so I put a call out to a friend who just made a purple and green quilt for a niece.
I used up some of her scraps (the solids were all I had)

For this one I learned how to hide my beginning and ending stitches so it looks just a bit more well done
 (sorry to the others)
front

I didnt use it- really! Just a sample picture.

Leslie happy to get it (her other smile was very cheesy!)
# 3 has been mailed out
#4 is waiting on an address
#5 I dont like so I'm going to re-do it.

Facebook homemade challenge

So I saw on a friends Facebook status this message:

Pay it Forward 2011:
I promise to send something handmade to the first 4 people who leave a comment here. In turn, those first 4 people must repost this and send something handmade to the first 5 people who comment on their status.
(The only rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 4 people sometime in 2011....)

So I of course got on it right away!
I put this as my status and within a couple hours I had all 5 people signed up.

This was quicker than I thought. Then I had to think of what I was going to make.
Humm- I dont want to make a quilt for each one but I like quilting. then I remembered a current trend going around in some of the new blogs that I have joined: Mug Rugs.

What on earth is a Mug Rug you may ask (as I did.)

Its a cross between a napkin/coaster/place mat. Its to put your coffee cup and a treat on without using a coaster or place mat or plate.

here is a picture of one:

Image found here

The bonus side of these little projects its that is uses up a lot of your scraps.

Keep an eye on the blog for more updates on my mug rugs
