Not Just For Quilters Shop Hop

This even was sponsered by Nanas Quliltin Place. She has some pictures up right now (Monday).

So I will show you my spoils!

It was so hard to choose from the many different fabrics there. I managed to narrow it down to one line.

Here is what I chose:
I have 6 1/2 yards of the top fabrics and 1 yard of the back.

I thought it was so cute. I bring it home and show Dave (who now thinks we are broke) and he says "I guess your definition of cute is different than mine"

I dont know what I'm planning on making with this yet, but I'm excited that I own it. (now do I know anyone needing baby quilts?

3 years

I refer you to daves post here.

So its our third anniversary!
Life has changed a lot since we got married. We are in another country (after 4 months in Europe), we bought a house, adopted 2 dogs, and have a child.

BUT one thing is still the same. That we love each other more than when we got married.

Our anniversary celebrations have changed too. The first anniversary was in Dublin Ireland at the start of our European work term and the second was Myrtle Beach, SC with our dog Bailey.

This year we had some friends watch Zeke while we went to a movie and dinner.
I dropped Zeke off, went to pick Dave up from work and off to Hickory we went. We saw Shrek Forever After 3D. It was pretty cool- but not sure I would go out of my way to see a 3D movie. The 3D is much better then years ago!

Shrek was pretty cool. I was reminded of zeke when I saw the baby Shrek's cheeks :)

A got her quilt!

Well its done!
My little Ikea doll blanket is cute.

The binding was not as hard to do as when I first started. Im now working on Andreas binding.

I got my little doll quilt done. Its a bit bigger then I expected it to be. But A loved it!

"Thank you Ms. Debbie! I love it. I can use it for Gracie"

Emily with A and Zeke

I think that A can use it as a car blanket too!

neighbourhood cookout!

So about 3 months ago or so my neighbour and I got together and started talking about the fact that we dont know too many of our neighbours. We mostly knew only the ones closest to us. In fact Heather and I didnt know each other til a few months before this talk.

So we decided to take the step and plan a Cookout. We had a change of date to put it on the first weekend of June.

Heather made up signs and Michelle and I went out to put one in each mailbox 2 weeks ago. We started to get replies right away. We had 17 on our list for today. We had 1 cancel today but we also had 4 show up!

This put our tally at 20 people today!

Im so thrilled that our first cookout had such success. (There are 25 houses on our street). Many people were saying that they have lived here for many many years and not done anything like this. They were so glad that we did something like this!

A's doll quilt

Well I have decided to make A (Emily's daughter-5 years old?) a doll blanket.

I also discovered that I forgot how small dolls are. here is my quilt with a doll I had when I was little.

Oh well- lots of wrapping room!

I have 1/2 the binding done- all I have to do is stitch it to the back :)

See the blue- that will go onto the front for a nice clean edge

I just used 2 pieces of fabric from Ikea and some cotton batting. I bought the fabric just because I had remembered that Emily had done her room in that theme from Ikea.

I used the sewing machine to quilt it. Its wonky- but I like it.
It was pretty quick and easy. I could probably have gotten it done in a day but there are too many other things to do too!

I had to look up how to bind a quilt as I had never done it before. I make the quilt top and then sew around the edges and then flip it so the edges are already done.

I think I still like that way- but that works for hand quilting much easier.
